Description and Responsibilities

Pathways Addictions Resource Centre is looking for a dynamic, forward thinking Youth and Family Counsellor to join our team.  Reporting to the Executive Director, the  Counsellor will provide out-patient counselling, treatment referrals and support to youth and their families dealing with substance use, addictions and mental health and while working in a collaborative team environment. 

Duties Include:

  • Provide assessments, treatment planning, individual therapeutic counselling, referrals, ongoing case management, and counselling services to clients dealing with substance use disorder
  • Facilitate groups for youth, adults, people affected by someone else’s use
  • Facilitate family and group counselling sessions
  • Liaise with agencies and referral sources including Penticton Foundry, School Districts, MCFD, probation, social services, mental health and other community organizations as part of the client treatment plan
  • Maintain confidential records on a client management system including case notes
  • Deliver psychoeducational workshops to community groups and the public
  • Contribute to an innovative and positive team environment
  • Adhere to all agency policies, procedures and professional code of ethics


  • Qualifications:
    • Master’s Degree in Counselling or related Social Service field with 2 year’s of recent related clinical experience, including at least two (2) year’s experience in a substance use and mental health providing therapeutic individual and group counselling
    • Must be or can be registered as RCC/BCCSW
    • Supervision of Practicum Students an asset
    • Experienced in Trauma Informed Practice
    • Familiar with other services and resources in the community, including referrals to treatment centres
    • Vehicle with Class 5 driver’s licence
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a case management team
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office and other client management systems

    Must pass a criminal record check and agency screening process
